Citizens Bank is offering up to $220 in cash bonuses for opening a checking account, setting up direct deposit, paying bills online, and using your debit card.
First, you must open a first-time Citizens Bank personal checking account online or in-branch. You must be a resident of a state where Citizens has operations. I believe this includes: Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont, and the Charter One brand in Illinois, Michigan and Ohio. I tried the online app using a Texas zip and wasn't able to fill it out. Let me know if you are able to use your state zip.
Then, you must fill out the app online and in-branch. Once your account is opened, the bonuses are:
- Direct Deposit of $500 or more - $50 cash
- Make 5 online bill payments - $25 cash
- Make 5 debit card purchases - $25 cash
- Enroll in GreenSense - $120. This is the most dubious of bonuses. With Green$ense, you get paid 10 cents every time you pay without paper - like when you use your debit card, pay a bill online, or have an automatic payment charged to your checking account or debit card. So the total amount you can receive over the course of a year is $120. But you'll have to make a lot of payments 1,200 to be exact to receive the full $120.
So, it's really a $100 bonus with the direct deposit, bill payment, and debit card with the potential to earn more.
