I personally have been stuck in some of these things for months. I was sold these on the grounds that they are just like cash and that I could always get out. I cannot. While I believe that these securities are secure (issued by Nuveen, Pimco, etc.), I am concerned now that UBS is valuing them at less than par in my portfolio. When will the issuers and banks make these markets liquid again?

did the investment banks sell these ARS at the same time that they were advising their customers to by them? if so, did they disclose the fact of their sales to the customers?
