Why Is Diesel More Expensive Than Gas?

I don't drive a diesel vehicle, but I have noticed lately how much more diesel costs than gas, and I've been wondering why that has been the case. It used to be about the same price as gas a few years ago. Now it's about 67 cents more per gallon.
