Walmart lost a case in North Carolina where it sought $33.5 million in refunds for taxes paid on account of a tax strategy where it paid itself taxes and then claimed deductions on it.

This isn't the first time Wal Mart has tried to legally define away it's obligations. In its very early days, it tried the same trick -- arguing that it had no obligation to pay its employees minimum wage:
