The weaker dollar and higher fuel prices are helping to make US manufacturers more competitive with Chinese companies. Thanks to higher fuel prices, the cost of shipping across the Pacific has gone way up.

However, this may not be much help since US factories and supplier networks have withered away. US companies just can't jump in and take advantage of these opportunities. It's going to take time and investments.

Seems like in the short term the only thing we'll see in the US is higher prices.
