Verizon Wireless is rumored to be acquiring Alltel. Verizon Wireless has been a very poorly run company -lacking all of the creativity of either of its parent companies (Verizon or Vodafone). While it doesn't solve the creativity problem and the reality that the company is becoming the AOL of the wireless world, this acquisition will enable it to gain market share in US markets where it has not been present. It is an easy integration as all of the systems and technologies are the same. Plus, they are buying it from financial investors at a discount from the price that they paid last year. This is a good transaction for Verizon Wireless.
