About 85 percent of U.S. households participate in at least one rewards program, according to a study released Monday by Consumer Reports. And though rewards do spur consumers to spend more, the study found that confusing rules and restrictions make most reward cards more trouble than they're worth.

I think this article is a little harsh. If you pay off your balance and if you are careful not to overspend, you can benefit from reward credit cards. I prefer the cash back ones.

I agree. These cards make a lot of sense for those who pay on time. I agree with the warning about airline miles generally - I have a Starwood card, but they also have been devaluing the value of the points by raising the requirements to stay in all of their hotels.

Yea, that's why I don't like points. It's so easy for them to devalue the points.

I have a Fidelity card where 2% goes into my kid's 531 account. It seems like the best deal out there and I don't have to worry about points.
