Rupert Murdoch prevailed in his bid for Dow Jones. This article in the New York Times is wrong that he wanted it only for posterity sake. He bid high because he knows that he will be able to build a powerful franchise around it that will destroy CNBC, Bloomberg, Thomson, etc. He also can have a huge impact on the company's products by making them compelling and throwing out this holier-than-thou idea that somehow the Wall Street Journal has to be some stodgy, serious paper.
