I don't know if the surge is the right thing, but I do now that this war is a nightmare for the US. George W. failed to head the advice of his father. Even his father knew that removing Saddam would leave instability in Iraq, a void that Iran would fill, and still greater problems for a very troubled region.

I supported this war at first, but I agree that it is a quagmire with terrible consequences for the US and its allies.
