HSBC, the major London-based conglomerate, has relaunched an online banking product in the US. After recently being active in the US through the HSBC Advance moniker, they have opted to go back to HSBC Direct which they used in the early 2000s. Their promotional rate is just for a limited time and afterward their rate go down to close to 0.1% or so. For a consistently higher rate, look for more decent bank like CapitalOne360 or Discover.

I opened an account here 2 weeks ago and then walked by a branch and saw that they are paying more there. I assumed the rate for online accounts had increased to the same, but it did not.
