With all this volatility,I have been trying to learn something about gold investments -- from folks other than those selling the stuff. I found this wikipedia entry helpful.

I'd do more than just research wikipedia before investing.

Gold doesn't serve any real industrial purposes. Like all commodities, it doesn't pay any dividends or interest. It has crashed in value before, and may do so again.

Gold is like any other commodity, it can go up and it can go down. In times of global uncertainty, it tends to go up. We live in uncertain times.
