WaMu is offering $100 to open a free checking account in a branch or online at free.wamu.com.  The offer may not be available to all customers and states though.  I've received emails from readers who have seen the promo in newspapers or received th offer via direct mail.  Members on Fatwallet report the same thing. If you received an offer code, it will be easy to open an account.  If you didn't get one, call WaMu and see if you can get in on the offer anyway.

The checking account is free and you must deposit $100 to receive the $100 bonus.

This bank is not the same, its Chase and they completely suck. Do your self a favor and find another bank. This statement comes from a Wamu customer for 8 years.

FYI: Need to set up direct deposit before you get the $100. Per WAMU website: Within 60 calendar days of account opening, you must initiate a monthly direct deposit such as payroll, pension or Social Security, or other government benefits.

Its not a scam, we have received our credit for $100 within a couple of weeks of opening account.

I just got off the phone with WaMu/Chase rep and apparently it is not a universal code promo, so unless you have saved the mail coupon, they can not honor the $100 reward for signing up for dd. I told them I am already a customer and wanted to open a new joint account. I also told them I was looking at BofA offers. There's nothing they can do...

I have used two of these offers so have my mom and my uncle. My girlfriend and cousin have used one and a couple other friends too. All have got their bonus. I have seen tons of these ads in the mail. The ones going around now ask for direct deposit which sucks with so many on unemployment. Only one per calender year now too we were lucky to get in on it in Dec. But they are real and they do pay. Best junk mail I ever got. There are other offers with other banks too. Citi has promos, Wachovia, Wescom, I have even gotten money from BofA and Wells through invites. Keep looking and check your mail! There may be a $100 in that junk.
