HSBC if offering a free power cost monitor valued at $150 to open a Plus Checking Account.  The monitor gives you real-time readings of your power usage at home to help you find ways to save energy and money.

To get the power cost monitor, you must open a new Plus relationship and deposit a minimum of $8,000 in new money to any qualifying personal accounts between 1/12/09 and 2/28/09, and maintain at least $8,000 in new money in total combined balances through 3/31/09.  The Plus relationship must remain over for at least 180 days with the minimum balance of $8,000 in order to receive the gift.

To avoid a monthly $15 maintenance fee for a Plus account, you need to maintain $15,000 in total combined balances including personal deposit, investment and qualifying credit balances.

The Plus account can be opened online, via the phone or in an HSBC branch.
