So can anyone become a deposit broker? Are most deposit brokers brokerages?

Anyone can become a deposit broker. Interestinly, you use to have to register but the FDIC dropped that requirement. However, certain types of CDs can only be handled by registered broker/dealers and their registered representatives.

I honestly don't know if most deposit brokers are brokerages or not. I suspect larger ones are. However, many smaller firms are not.
