I suggest that you speak with some folks who understand the technology (I don't). You may be right, but there is no shortage of people in the valley and on the street who think VMWare's virtualization technology has real prospects. These days, everything is being taken out back and shot for any reason. The CEO leaving may or may not be a cause for concern.

I think VMware has a great product and is best of breed. The problem is that it has become commoditised (standard) and so they are losing pricing power (and hence lower revenues)as more an more competitors come in to the market at lower price points. CEO leaving before earnings is a concern I was an investor. A

At this price, VMWare is going to acquired by Cisco. They had tried to buy it from EMC before it went public. Heck, John Chambers is probably even considering just taking EMC over. The only challenge is that Chambers doesn't like to go hostile and EMC isn't going to be a willing seller.

Good analysis. I think EMC may hold off on spinning off VM Ware until the news around the company improves.
