As AronLiv suggests on this site, there is a battle brewing in Asia between Qualcomm's 3G standards (such as HSDPA) and other alternatives (such as WiMAX which is backed by Intel, Motorola, Siemens, Alvarion, Clearwire, etc.) This article is very interesting because Telstra in Australia, which while in a market much different from the rest of Asia, may tell us which way the US and Europe are going to shape up on this battle.

WiMAX is a disruptive technology. The incumbent in a geographically isolated market can easily dismiss it and say it isn't ready for prime time, but it is going to change the nature of wireless telecom.
