The iPad is shaping up to be a colossal failure.

The iPad is coming out soon. For many loyal Apple fanatics, this is yet another game-changing consumer electronics product. They just have to get their hands on it.
In spite of Apple's tremendous appeal, the number of such loyal Apple fanatics does have an upside limit and that limit is a lot lower than most analysts expected. When Apple began taking orders for the device last Friday, they were running 25,000 an hour. However, by Saturday, they were down to 1,000 an hour. Many analysts suggested that this was an ordinary weekend lull, but orders apparently did not pick up meaningfully today (Monday).
I am a big fan of Apple. I am writing on an Apple computer. I own several iPods. I own an iPhone and use the Safari browser constantly. However, I really don't care for all of the iPhone apps and believe that we have already reached a saturation point with smart phones (the longer-term utility beyond the browser will be very limited).
One thing I don't need is a large Touch.
Inside Take: Steve Jobs missed the mark with this one. There is always a time to sell your winners and now is the time to get out of Apple.

Thats exactly the point!
it is not a smart phone!!! hence no mic or camera
it is simply a different product to fill a different, albeit small niche
why is this concept so hard for people to grasp?
quit trying to make it out as something it is not, nor never will be.
I preorded friday, and this is how I will use it;
I read alot - for fun and and for education. being able to have textbooks with me all the time and search them for keywords/phrases is a huge time saver when studying.
I will buy a stylus and hand-write all my notes on the ipad so I always have them with me and are easily shared.
I have installed an OBDII engine in my old toyota and am building a new dashboard that uses the ipad in the center console, in conjunction with an OBDII reader and the Rev app, as the speedo/tach. I will also be able to do real-time engine analysis and GPS navigation. don't worry, an analog speedo is still there for backup though
I research/read a lot of scientific journals, and being able to lay in bed and do this will be great. not to mention not having to print out hundreds of papers a year. (i have tried doing it on my laptop, but the form-factor blows)
I will obviously watch movies
I have have a dedicated PC server hooked up to my cable, and with the Orb app, I can stream live TV wherever I have internet. as well as schedule recordings.
these are a few of my prospective uses. all of which will make my life much simpler and more efficient. isn't that what technology is intended to do?

Wow Fred, that's a pretty impressive description of what you want to do. I agree the new form factor is pretty neat. I just question how comfortable it will be using the device. Because it doesn't have a stand, you'll either need to build a base or hold the iPad 100% of the time you are using it. Not exactly ideal for reading in my opinion.

i think he's speculating about the success and usability of the product. everything is speculation at this point, isn't it? i also don't think he's predicting it will be a failure, just questioning it's comfort. calm down. typical apple fanboy.

The numbers are in and they are STUNNING! At a sustained rate of more than 250,000 per hour, customers are refusing to purchase the Ipad. Rarely in the history of crossover computing has a device inspired such healthy neglect. Stay tuned, rumor has it that tomorrow more these numbers could exceed 500,00 per hour!!!

yes, I am being speculative. but I am confident the new form factor will work great for me just based on how I try to use my laptop already. I think a stand is not necessary because how do you read a book? you hold it in your hand. plus, it is very difficult to hold a book with one hand. you are always changing hands or moving it around so that you can read the bottom of the page or in the crease. the ipad will lend itself to a more static reading position
