We are in the middle of an amazing upgrade cycle brought on by the iPhone, with some slight contribution by RIMM and the Samsung Instinct. However, phone sales are dropping. This is an especially poor development for Motorola (whose market share fell from 32% to 21% as is headed for single digits), as well as Nokia and Ericsson which have no idea how to compete with Apple and Rimm. Definitely doesn't bode well for the carriers or anyone else with a vested interest in mobile expansion.

The slowing economy will hurt everyone, including Apple. IMO, the consumer frenzy for the latest and greatest will slow over the next couple of years, as consumers retrench.
