Nanosolar, a heavily financed Silicon Valley start-up whose backers include Google’s co-founders,claims it can profitably sell solar panels for less than $1 a watt. That means a plant can be built for about $2 per watt. By comparison, coal costs about $2.1 per watt.

Is it true? Is solar's time finally here? There has been a lot of talk about solar for the last 30 years so these guys will have to prove they can manufacture the product at the price they estimate before I'll become a believer. Still, interesting stuff to follow

It would be great if it does work out as they say. Not only would it be great for the environment, but it would be great for our economy. Innovation like this gives me hope that we're not headed into a depression.

Yup, innovation seems to be the key. They need to find something to take the place of oil or we're headed towards $200 per barrel. Thanks for the comment.
