These eBook devices don't look like game changers to me. First, the pricing on these items and services needs to come down or else these things will remain novelty items.

Sony Revamps e-Book, But Not Flawed Business Model Peter Kafka | October 2, 2007 10:58 AM

Sony has unveiled a new version of its Reader e-book, and the gadget press is all over it because it is slimmer and has a better screen than previous book readers.  But the reality is that these items at $300 a pop don't really solve any problem for readers, or provide any incentive to buy digital books.  In short, these are a lousy consumer proposition.

I checked and Sony's Connect store does offer some books at a discount, but most titles are priced close to the physical product. I did find a could of new novels that were priced at a 11% discount of Amazon's hardcover price.  However, if Sony, Amazon, or anyone else is going to make ebooks work, they're going to need to solve the pricing problem. Otherwise the gadgets will remain a novelty item.

I'll continue to read the old fashioned way until somebody presents a real proposition for me.

I agree. I posted an article similar to this several weeks ago when The Kindle first was announced.

I believe that iPods, iPhones and other mobil devices actually have a better chance of incorporating reader technology and gaining mass user adoption. They're already in user hands. Stand-alone reader devices have a tough slog.
