Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke in a speech to the Senate Banking Committee said he does not believe the US will suffer another bout of 70s style deflation. In his view, the commodity prices increases are about over and prices should stabilize in the coming months. Bernanke came across as a complete fool. He basically said that 70s-style stagflation is not a risk, but he was unprepared for the obvious follow-up questions and couldn't explain why the current economic environment is materially different from that then.
