For the fifth week in a row, Southern Community bank had the best savings rate on the BestCashCow rate tables, paying 2% APY on savings deposits. That's 60 basis points higher than the BestCashCow savings rate average which remained steady this week at 1.39% APY.

The best savings account rates remain near the 2% range this week. Everbank tops the list with their guaranteed 2.25% 3-month promo rate for new money. Southern Community Bank has the highest non-promo rate with their Ready Saver Account.

United Central Bank was founded in 1987 in Dallas Texas and has since expanded to have 15 branch offices in five states - California, Maryland, Georgia, Texas, and Virginia. According to a March 31, 2009 report filed with the FDIC, the bank had approximately $1 billion in assets and $738 million in deposits. The bank offers competitive savings and CD rates.
