John Lewis Meets Donald Trump

John Lewis Meets Donald Trump

The venerable American, Georgia Congressman John Lewis, just spoke out and said Donald Trump is an illegitimate president, having won only with the assistance of Russia and James Comey. And, it was not a casual comment. He was expressing genuine grief at the status of things. Others of almost equal status could have stood up by now, but none has and time is up.

Lewis clearly was speaking from his heart. Lewis certainly didn’t say what he said to test Trump, but no one could have imagined a better and final test of Trump’s ability to lead this country. It is the ultimate test, responding to an American icon, with respect, calm and measured words.

Early this morning, Trump responded in his now all too familiar manner, criticizing and demeaning Lewis’ accomplishments and leadership in his home district:

"Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk - no action or results. Sad!"

These words are, yet again, those of a five year-old bully in a school playground. Trump hasn't even assumed the Presidency, and he has failed all Americans.
