Sign-Up Bonus

Current signup offer is 25,000 points after you spend $3,000 in 3 months, provided you have never had this product before.  Fee waived the first year, $95 thereafter.

Point Accrual

While you still only earn 1 point per $1 spend and there are no bonus categories, the points are now convertible to Marriott points at a fixed rate of 1 to 3.   However, in late 2018, this card will reportedly be converted to earning 2 Marriott points per dollar spend which will drop the returned on spend by 1/3 of its current level.  We value each Marriott point as high as 0.90 cents per dollar only when redeemed for Hotel + Air Packages.

Most Valuable Redemptions

Maximum value is achieved through Marriott Rewards' 7 night Hotel + Air packages where 540,000 Marriott points (180,000 Starwood points) will yield 7 nights in a Ritz Carlton plus 130,000 United miles.   Alternatively, 48,000 Starwood points for 5 nights at a category 5 Starwood property, such as the Sheraton Kauai Resort, The Westin Palace Madrid or the Westin Michigan Ave Chicago, are also strong redemptions.

I am disappointed all over. I had this card for decades. I remained loyal to Amex and felt that I was well rewarded, but so were they. Then came the devaluations and the Marriot merger. I stuck with it, even though I rarely stay in Marriots --> prefer all of the Starwood brands incl. Sheraton outside the US. Then they do this and move it to 2 points instead of 3. My spend is now worth over 33% less? I guess my 20 year loyalty is also worth 33% less so I will switch to Cap1 or Discover or somewhere else.

I used to have this card, but think the Reserve is better. These points are worth something, but not a whole lot more than the Chase points and since Reserve is littered with all sorts of two-time and three-time earning opportunities, it is my choice going forward.

I disagree with your valuations. Starpoints are the most valuable currency by far, especially now that their value is locked in 1-to-3 with marriott. This card may not have the bonus of the Chase Sapphire Reserve, but their points are mor valuable than any of the transferable points. The business card also gives you free access to the lounges at Starwood properties.
