HSBC if offering a free power cost monitor valued at $150 to open a Plus Checking Account. The monitor gives you real-time readings of your power usage at home to help you find ways to save energy and money.

To get the power cost monitor, you must open a new Plus relationship and deposit a minimum of $8,000 in new money to any qualifying personal accounts between 1/12/09 and 2/28/09, and maintain at least $8,000 in new money in total combined balances through 3/31/09. The Plus relationship must remain over for at least 180 days with the minimum balance of $8,000 in order to receive the gift.

To avoid a monthly $15 maintenance fee for a Plus account, you need to maintain $15,000 in total combined balances including personal deposit, investment and qualifying credit balances.

The Plus account can be opened online, via the phone or in an HSBC branch.

    awful deal. no way this thing is worth $150 and we'll have to report it at that value to the irs. plus you have to keep $15,000 in the account. no way hsbc. try again.
