The Democrats Should Suspend All of Their Debates

Here are some things that could be interesting in a normal environment:

  1. Hearing Joe Biden defend himself and his son Hunter from allegations of misconduct.
  2. Seeing Elizabeth Warren’s latest handout proposals to generate excitement among young people.
  3. Watching Bernie Sanders explain the virtues of socialism.
  4. Listening to Pete Buttigieg explain why his youth and sexual orientation makes him uniquely well qualified to be President.
  5. Watching Beto O’Rourke’s extraordinary hand gestures.
  6. Being reminded by Cory Booker that he went to Stanford and Yale and lives in Newark.
  7. Having Tulsi Gabbard, a sitting US Congresswoman from Hawaii, offer her spirited defense of Bashar Al-Assad, a tyrant.
  8. Hearing Kamala Harris explain how she would prosecute a case against Rudy Giuliani.
  9. Seeing Julian Castro manufacture words as a pretense for his age discrimination.
  10. Watching Amy Klobuchar try to conjure up everyone’s memory of how well she handled the Kavanaugh hearings.
  11. Seeing Andrew Yang who isn’t much of an entrepreneur explain why we need a entrepreneur as a President.
  12. Having Tom Steyer explain why only a billionaire can defeat another billionaire.

This is not a normal time. We have a President who was troubled for years, but has now completely gone off the rails. In just the last week, he has compromised our war of terror, our allies, our democracy. Our biggest adversary is using him as a tool to expand his strategy of tearing us apart as a people and a nation. Our country is falling apart right before our eyes, and we have become completely beholden to Adam Schiff to prosecute a case while Mitt Romney and others try to pull together a group of Senators who will save the country.

The Democrats can have their debates some other time, in a normal environment, when they are preparing to try to beat Nikki Haley, Bob Corker or Jeff Flake. That election is still 13 months away.

Right now, someone – maybe Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, DNC Chairman Tom Perez – needs to suspend these debates in order to focus the public’s attention where it is required and get our country through these difficult days.
