Where Have all the Senators Gone?

The country is at the brink. There is such turmoil now that it is hard to understand how some of those in power in the Congress and, even in the White House, are not stepping forward, putting aside party allegiances, and standing on the side of common sense and on the side of the nation.

America has been at risk since the outcome of the last election. We have never in our history had a president so totally burdened by massive psychological baggage. Recent events, especially the firing of James Comey two days ago and the Russian celebration in the White House yesterday, place our democracy on very unsteady footing. The real press is on high alert, and bold in their efforts to probe and uncover the mess that we are in.

But, the only folks who can really reverse the crisis we are in are the Republicans in Congress, and especially Republican senators. Those in the House are, in the main, less intelligent and far less likely to be bold. Some number (actually only as few as four or so are needed) could save the Union. But, so far, not one, in spite of all that is going on, has stepped forward definitively to part ways with the president.

How sad that there aren’t even a small number of true patriots on the Republican side. If the president is left unfettered and unchallenged, the America we have known since the American Revolution will morph soon into something we will all regret, not only for the pain of the moment, but for the realities our children will face.

It is impossible to even think of any Republican senator who might have the courage to take on the President. Lindsey Graham looked for awhile as one who might stand up; so did John McCain. But both folded numerous times when they were most needed. If there are still others on whom we can count, they better emerge soon. We do not have much time left.

The American experiment is at a key moment, our way of life as we know it is at risk, and our children’s future is bleak indeed.

Wake up Senators. Save America.

In most authoritarian regime, you can be killed for your opinion. In the US today, the most a senator can fear is potentially loosing his/her seat in the next election. What is going on with our sheepish senators and congressmen/congresswomen is beyond disgraceful. Trump is insane and must be impeached. Now.

James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!
