Woodward Book is the Latest Media Talking Point, but Won’t Change Anything

The media is going crazy trying to make hay of the revelations in Bob Woodward’s latest book. Much of what he says in his book have been said already. Somehow, the fact that these same things have been written by the journalist who took down Nixon is supposed to make this time different.

Republicans are the people who are in power and who control everything in this country right now. They will not risk their own hides and their agenda (including the Kavanaugh confirmation) in order to pay head to the fact that we now have what Carl Bernstein has described as a “national emergency.”

Meanwhile, most Americans have their heads in the sand and just want to assume that everything will be OK. They remain blind and ignorant of Russia’s role in the last election and all that Russia has gained by turning us on each other and our allies. As I watched Jack Dorsey and Sheryl Sandberg testify on Capital Hill today, it actually became clear that they too have no interest in the truth or in preservation of our democracy, or protecting their vulnerable users. Maybe our democracy really is gone for good. Bernstein’s reporting and the attitudes of those like Dorsey and Sandberg really do call into question whether, in fact, all will be okay in the end. There is not much out there to hang on to.
