For almost half the nation, Trump has been a welcome change for America (although the other half vigorously feels the other way). But, he is now seriously out of his area of competence and no longer a legitimate leader.
This is not his fault. It’s just how it is. Someone for one moment is not someone for every moment.
No one could have anticipated a global pandemic and not everyone can lead a country, or the world for that matter, in the midst of a crisis of this kind, requiring very specific expertise, mind set and unique sensitivity to the life and death consequences of this challenge.
Trump brought a lot of new, and for some welcome perspective to the role of president and to the exercise of leadership over the last three plus years. We need to recognize that. But, at this unique life and death moment for the nation, his very distinctive leadership skills are just not the skill set critically required to save our country and the world. It is as simple as that.
We are at a life and death moment, and Trump needs to bow to the obvious – he must go now.
The person who must lead the country now must be contemplative, able to share the spotlight with others, quick to honor expertise, empathetic and democratically driven. This is simply not Trump and he knows it.
Very simply the skill set needed is charisma, keen competence, and the people skills to lead in a disaster. Trump brings a whole different set. A great man knows his own skills and timing. And, this is his moment be a great man and to step down immediately.
