Where are the Calls for Hillary?

Our world changed completely in November. And it continues to do so. But, amidst all the craziness, nowhere do we hear a call for Hillary.

Imagine if Hillary had won last November. Her top agenda items were all not that bad, but oh so Obama-familiar: raising taxes on the wealthier, disability rights, LGBT rights, racial justice, substance abuse, early childhood education, debt-free college for the needy, and everything else for special and small groups and for the poorest of the poor. These are, on their merits, good and worthy concerns. But, like Obama, they focused ONLY on special interests and the poor, on less well educated, the less successful in our midst. It was that blind focus on the needs of some groups to the exclusion of the needs of all, that caused her to falter. American’s had grown tired, very tired, of Obama’s foci. And, she was even worse. She had become Obama ++.

What we now have with Trump is totally lopsided too, unduly favoring the rich and successful. But Trump managed also to convince, albeit with empty promises, the working class that he had their backs too.

What Trump is doing to America – and by extension to the world – is deeply troubling. But, it is one thing for sure – it is not Hillary’s hugely restricted, tearful focus on those left behind to the detriment of all others. Trump, or at least one or more of his advisors, saw that she was leaving out most Americans.

While there is much (and greatly deserved) criticism of Trump these days, nowhere is there a call for the return of Hillary.
